 The duration of a pre-purchase survey varies based on the vessel’s size and complexity, but most inspections are completed within 2 to 8 hours .

 Yes, sea trials are often requested by buyers to evaluate a vessel’s performance and onboard systems under real operating conditions. They are especially valuable for identifying issues that may not be apparent during on the trailer inspection.  Sea trials are offered with an additional fee.   

Costs vary widely based on the survey type and vessel size, generally ranging from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars.

 A marine surveyor’s role is to provide an objective, unbiased assessment of a vessel’s condition. They document findings, identify deficiencies, and may note safety concerns or recommended repairs, but they do not make the purchase decision for the buyer. 

 A marine surveyor can assess and report on a vessel’s condition, including structure, systems, and safety equipment, and may comment on whether those elements are consistent with generally accepted standards of seaworthiness at the time of inspection. But they do not certify or guarantee that a vessel is “seaworthy.”  

Yes.  Survey reports are optional for pre-purchase however they are a must for insurance evaluations.  Survey reports are an additional fee.  

I perform a detailed inspection of the engine compartment which includes but not limited too; belts, pulleys, risers, manifolds, fuel lines, water lines, engine mounts, etc.  If you need a compression test, I would recommend contacting a local marine repair shop.
